HSE inspecting manufacturing businesses where materials that contain silica are used
The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) have announced that they will be inspecting manufacturing businesses where materials that contain silica are used. Silica is a natural substance found in most stone, rocks, sand and clay.
When these materials are processed in manufacturing, respirable crystalline silica (RCS) particles can become airborne. If breathed in, these particles can cause irreversible lung disease which can prove fatal.
To find out more, take a look at the HSE’s “No time to lose” campaign on work-related cancer where they share a short video on silicosis.
