HSE releases annual statistics for workplace fatal injuries
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have recently released their annual statistics for workplace fatal injuries for Great Britain in 2022 – follow this link for the full report.
Some key figures show that 123 workers died in work-related accidents in 2021/2022 and 2,544 deaths in 2020 through past exposure to asbestos (Workplace Fatality Figures Published, HSE).
The industries with the highest deaths were construction, manufacturing, agriculture, forestry and fishing.
The three most common causes of fatal injuries continue to be falling from height and being struck by a moving vehicle or object.
Also published were the Mesothelioma statistics for Great Britain in 2022 – see here for the statistics. Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that takes many years to develop following the inhalation of asbestos fibres but is usually rapidly fatal following symptom onset.
